Mission

Bring leaders and practitioners together to provide clear, thought provoking direction for enterprise organizations to effectively adopt AI-Native Development at scale across the SDLC.

Scope

We are inclusive. We welcome a wide range of practitioners who work in and around software development and are passionate about the potential for AI technologies to make building great software more efficient and effective. The structure of the community will provide direction, standards, oversight and support for making the mission open and accessible.

Membership

Membership to the community is on an individual level, and not on behalf of your employer. There are three levels of membership designed to balance commitment, responsibility and open membership.

All initiatives and activities proposed within the community shall be subject to approval by a majority vote of the Steering Committee. A valid vote requires the participation of at least 51% of all current Steering Committee members. Decisions shall be considered approved when a majority of those voting members cast affirmative votes, provided the minimum participation threshold is met.

a) Steering Committee Members

Define the vision, manifesto, code of conduct and mechanisms. Actively promote the community and drive the mission and vision of the Community.

b) Core Members

Lead discussions, events and projects. Actively contribute to the community body of knowledge. Engage with; and act as a bridge; between the community and the community members. Actively champion the needs and requirements of members.

c) Standard Members

Participate in discussions, events and projects. Vote on referendums and provide alignment feedback.

d) Criteria and Responsibilities

Role Criteria Responsibilities
Steering Committee Demonstrate thought leadership.

Community Members Completed community registration form. Optionally participate in discussions, events and projects.

Vote on referendums and provide alignment feedback.

Guiding Principles

The community will welcome any practitioners who actively participate and contribute to the development of AI-Native software development, and will not be limited by role types, location or organizational affiliation. We encourage members to be active participants and contributors which can be inspected through publicly accessible artifacts such as published articles, blog posts, videos, event presentations and the like.

The structure of the Core Members is such that it should strive to be diverse in the representation of the types of members that it serves.

The Steering Committee Members will determine criteria for maintaining active community membership, and the formation of Core Members. We will have standards for voting and overcoming differences. We will also determine a structure to maintain financial support of the Community in a way that is fair and maintains its sustainability.

Social Contract

The AI Native Builders Community exists to foster collaboration, innovation, and learning among people building with and for AI. This social contract is a shared commitment to ensure our community remains respectful, inclusive, and purpose-driven.

i) Engagement

  • Participate actively and thoughtfully in discussions, projects, and events.
  • Share knowledge, ideas, and resources generously.
  • Ask questions, challenge constructively, and stay open to learning.

ii) Respect

  • Treat every member with dignity, regardless of background, skill level, or perspective.
  • Listen actively and avoid dismissive or harmful behavior.
  • Give credit where it's due and respect intellectual contributions.

iii) Contribution

  • Add positively to the community's collective goals.
  • Support other members' growth by mentoring, reviewing, or collaborating.
  • Uphold integrity and transparency in all contributions.

iv) Community Commitments

  • Inclusivity: Create a welcoming environment for all, regardless of background.
  • Accountability: Own up to mistakes, resolve conflicts constructively, and repair harm when possible.
  • Growth Mindset: See challenges as opportunities to learn and improve.
  • Shared Success: Celebrate collective wins, not just individual achievements.

v) Enforcement

  • Violations of this contract may result in reminders, pauses in participation, or removal from the community depending on severity.
  • The Stewards, together with collective community input, will review and guide enforcement.

vi) Independent Moderation

  • All posts to community forums will be reviewed by an independent "Sentiment Agent".
  • This agent will ensure that the community principles are being respected, and that the forums remain a safe place for people to learn, explore, debate, investigate and grow.
  • Posts that transgress these principles will be blocked.
  • Members will get feedback on how to better align individual posts, including a suggested rewrite.
  • Up to 5 attempts will be allowed to redraft posts to align to these principles.
  • The core members have a responsibility to maintain the "Sentiment Agent".

vii) Transparency

  • We insist all members to attribute credit, and reference ideas or methods from others.
  • All governance decisions, minutes, and votes shall be public.

Cadences

Meeting Structure

Member Level Meeting Frequency Purpose Output
Steering Committee Quarterly Strategic direction, approvals Minutes, published updates
Core Members Monthly Review needs, develop initiatives Proposals, projects
Community Members Ongoing Learning, discussion, events Participation

Steering Committee Meetings: For the Steering Committee members we will have at least quarterly gatherings to discuss, review and approve key items raised by core members. These meetings will have a rotating chairperson with all discussion points, decisions and outcomes to be minuted by a secretary. Meeting minutes will be made available in writing to all Core Members within a week of meetings taking place, with key communications summarised and published to Community Members.

Core Member Meetings: For Core Members we will have at least monthly meetings to review new, emerging and existing needs and projects raised by the Community Members. These will be raised and represented by Community Members for consideration to further develop the broader interests of the community and if needed, taken to votes to gather support.

Community Member Meetings: For Community Members we will have a variety of gatherings and meetings in order to learn, share and foster collaboration of knowledge and projects that best serve the interests of the mission. These will be available both virtually and physically.

Planned Outcomes

We strive to, but are not limited by delivering the following outcomes:

1. Creation of the AI Builders Manifesto

Under the direction of Core and Steering Group Members, a Manifesto for AI-Native Software Development which emphasizes values of the practice including the role of individuals, interactions, building software, transparency, collaboration, and evolutions.

2. Globalize Adoption

The Community must focus on spreading AI-Native software principles to all functions and organisation types who have software development as a deliverable.

3. Knowledge Sharing and Community Building

Through annual conferences, publications, and support of special interest groups, the Community must foster a welcoming and collaborative environment for practitioners to develop best practices, exchange case study exchanges and promote continuous learning.

4. Educational Resources and Training

The Community should strive to develop learning resources — including articles, whitepapers, and hands-on training materials — to help individuals and organizations adopt and refine AI-Native Development Lifecycle methodologies.

5. Improved Organizational Outcomes

The Community, and in particular its Core and Steering Committee members must strive to lead and advocate organizations to adopt AI-Native software development practices to deliver improved productivity benefits, enhance collaboration, deliver superior product quality, realise faster delivery times and higher overall customer satisfaction with a sustainable software development practice practice by using an AI-first approach.

6. Broader Industry Impact

The Community should strive to refine and develop frameworks that reduce the friction to learn, adopt, implement and sustain AI-Native software development practices that take into consideration different organizational cultures and allow tailoring to their needs.

7. Strategic Collaborations

The Community should strive to form, support and sustain partnerships that lead to easier and faster adoption of AI-Native software development practices. These should include organisations like enterprises, software vendors, consulting and academic institutions.
